Greater Hermit: Where Luxury Meets Collector's Passion

Ching-Hung Lin's Design Merges Elegance with Model Display

In the heart of Taiwan, Ching-Hung Lin has transformed a residence into a sanctuary for both living and showcasing a vast model collection. The Greater Hermit project stands as a testament to the seamless integration of luxury and personalized display spaces.

The Greater Hermit residence, designed by Ching-Hung Lin, is a space where functionality meets sophistication. Lin's design draws inspiration from the vibrant energy of rattan tones, reflecting the youthful spirit of the client. The residence is meticulously planned to house a significant custom-made model collection, ensuring that each piece is displayed in its full glory. The use of natural light, smart appliances, and a variety of materials imparts a luxurious warmth and an inviting charm to the space.

What sets the Greater Hermit apart is the harmonious blend of rigidity and luxury. Lin's vision was to create a home that would not only accommodate the client's extensive collection but also anticipate its growth over the next two decades. The thoughtful arrangement of display spaces and strategic lighting accentuates the collection's details, while the juxtaposition of light and dark materials adds depth to the interior design.

The realization of this project involved a sophisticated interplay of marble, iron, spray paint, glass, fabric, and wood veneer, among other materials. Lin's minimalist approach ensures timelessness, while the variety of textures and functionalities creates an approachable yet refined atmosphere. The transformation of the 71.9 square meter space into a four-room layout with reduced corridor width allowed for more intimate areas, with gold and metal accents harmonizing the colorful models with the interior design.

Lin's design philosophy extends to the storage spaces, where single-sided glass doors replace the potential confusion of double-glazing, enhancing the visual quality. The storage design is not merely functional but an art form in itself, carefully preserving and presenting over 200 models, each a masterpiece requiring meticulous care.

The Greater Hermit is more than a residence; it's an interactive space that reflects the client's life, preferences, and aspirations. Through careful planning of light, texture, and space, Lin has crafted a home that not only stores treasures but also celebrates them. The project, completed in November 2022, is a renovation of a 15-year-old apartment, embodying the trust and history between Lin and the client, and symbolizing a new chapter filled with hope and blessings.

Overcoming the challenge of integrating living spaces with storage and display needs, Lin has redefined the concept of storage in interior design. Each element of the Greater Hermit is a deliberate choice to enhance the client's lifestyle and showcase their passion for collecting. This dedication to design excellence has earned the Greater Hermit an Iron in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2024, marking it as a space where elegance and personal interests coalesce into a harmonious living experience.
